1. How Dry-Cleaning a Brush Works
As you use a makeup brush, powder, oil, and small amounts of skin oil get trapped between the bristles. Left uncleaned, this residue gradually makes bristles feel heavier and clumped, and affects how accurately the brush picks up color next time. The core of Quick Dry Brush Cleanser's formula is a highly breathable oil. Its natural affinity for powder and oil residue quickly loosens and dissolves grime clinging to the bristle surface and between fibers, with no need for extra rinsing or scrubbing.
Because the formula is highly breathable, it evaporates quickly on contact with bristles and leaves no oily feel, while also helping bristles become soft and clean during cleaning, keeping their original softness and bounce. The whole process is just three steps: brush through, wipe away residue, and clean, much faster than water washing which needs bristles to fully air-dry. That said, how much solution is picked up each time, and the brush and environment, vary, so drying time can differ too. We recommend waiting about five minutes after cleaning to confirm bristles are fully dry with no oily feel before using them, rather than applying makeup right away.
2. Dry-Clean vs. Water Wash, and How to Combine Them
Dry-cleaning and water washing actually address different levels of cleaning need, they don't replace each other:
- Dry-clean (waterless formula): suited to quick everyday cleaning and cleaning before switching colors. No water needed, dries fast, ideal for daily makeup wearers who frequently switch eyeshadow or blush colors. Wait about five minutes after cleaning to confirm bristles are fully dry with no oily feel before using them.
- Water wash (water or a dedicated brush cleanser): suited to periodic deep cleaning, and can handle deep-set oil and older residue that dry-cleaning has more trouble fully removing, but needs several hours to air-dry, so it's not ideal when you're in a hurry or for daily use.
We recommend: use dry-cleaning for everyday color changes and quick cleaning, and schedule one or two water washes a month for deep cleaning. Alternating between the two keeps your brushes usable and clean every day, without shortening their lifespan from washing with water daily.
This product is designed to be used waterless. If bristles are still wet with water when you use this product, the formula can't work properly and can actually leave bristles feeling oilier and harder to fully dry, reducing how well it cleans. Use dry-cleaning only once brushes are completely dry; if you're water washing this time, wait until the brush is fully dry, then use dry-cleaning next time. Just keep the two separate.
